Karazen Review: Stephen Chow is up to
his old antics as he
stars in his latest
martial arts/ comedy
blockbuster Kung Fu
Hustle. It's been awhile
since his last movie Shaolin Soccer. After
his deservedly
well-received Shaolin
Soccer, his fans are
expecting something
seriously silly,
excellent choreographed
fight scenes, as well as
a heavy dose of CGI
action sequence. Kung Fu
Hustle is choreographed
by the acclaimed duo of
Yuen Woo Ping and Sammo
Hung.
In terms of HK box
office power, Stephen
Chow's movies are second
to none. Kung Fu Hustle
has been out in Asia and
broke the all-time
highest grossing movie
in Hong Kong. Sony/Columbia
Pictures Film Production spent US $10
million plus to make
this movie and are
already talking of a
sequel to this
franchise. As is all
Stephen Chow's movies,
foreign audiences will
have mixed reviews. His
super silly humor and
parody might suffer from
dialogues getting lost
in translation. But
there's such a giddy
glee and childish
playfulness that many
people will find
themselves at one point
or another laughing and
smiling. There's alot of funny characters
in the film, most of his
gang from Shaolin Soccer
are also in Kung Fu
Hustle. But the
character that stood out
most was the fat lady.
She was hilarious and
other than Stephen Chow,
she stole the show. Kung Fu
Hustle has proven to be
an astounding hit for a
Chinese movie. Hopefully
this movie will catapult
Stephen Chow's
international appeal and
career, bringing him to
become the next Chinese
worldwide superstar.
In the end
if you liked Stephen
Chow's past movies then
you will like this one.
For me it was a little
too over the top. I liked Shaolin Soccer a
bit more than Kung Fu
Hustle, as it had more
of a storyline..
But if you're looking
for a laugh then this is
a must-see.

Beautifully directed by Stephen Chow. Its main appeal, however, still rests with the beautiful images and haunting battles; they'll stick with you long after the particulars of the plot have faded. Extremely funny with many hysterical characters including the scene-stealing land-lady. Be prepared to laugh your socks off.
