Just Missed the Mark of Kung Fu Hustle and Infernal Affairs 3
HONG KONG
Initial D, starring Jay Chou, Shawn Yu, and Edison Chen as the lead actors,
officially premiered yesterday in Hong Kong, bringing in $3.12 million. Initial
D currently holds the third place record for box office earnings, losing tightly
to Stephen Chow’s “Kung Fu Hustle” and to “Infernal Affairs 3” with leads Andy
Lau and Tony Leung.
Following Kung Fu Hustle and Infernal Affairs, Initial D, directed by Alan Mak
and Andrew Lau. Starring Jay Chou, Shawn Yue, Edison
Chen, and Anthony Wong, Initial D officially premiered yesterday in Hong Kong.
Even though it was a regular day(not Fri/Sat/Sun), ticket sales exceeded
expectations, amounting to $3.12 million in earnings, claiming third place in
Hong Kong's box office earnings history!
Over Ten Million In Earnings Throughout Asia
Initial D is currently showing in 89 theaters, 11 less than Infernal Affairs 3,
but is only grossing $900,000 less. During the time that Kung Fu Hustle first
premiered, 94 theaters were showing it, and it grossed $4.11 million. As for the
Mainland premiere, Initial D did very well, grossing $6 million. Added
altogether, the movie has racked in extremely good results, earning over $10 million throughout Asia.
When the boss heard the results, he expressed he was very happy and will hold a
celebration party later on. When the actors heard that box office earnings
exceeded desired standards, they were also very happy. Jay even asked if they
would be making a sequel to the movie, but Director Mak expressed that he did
not want to make another racing movie. However, Director Mak is considering
using the same actors and casting them in a new movie. Edison joked, saying that
Jay, Shawn, and he have already begun privately discussing the plot for their
next movie.
