The much anticipated movie “J & J Project”
starring kung fu star Jackie Chan and Jet Li
has changed the title into “Kings of Kung Fu”,
Chinese title “功夫之王”. The movie will start shooting in
late April or early May.
Fantasy, adventure and action will combine to tell the
story of an American boy called Jason who travels back
to ancient China on a time machine. He meets two kung fu
masters played by Jackie Chan and Jet Li, and winds up
helping them beat the bad guys. Jason meets with action
master Lu Yan played by Jackie Chan and Jin Yanzi, plus
a silent monk played by Jet Li. They overcome many
difficulties and defeat the evil power. In the end, they
finish the redemption of saving the Monkey King. It is
the first time that the two action superstars cross
swords and is worthy of attention.
Fans have been dreaming about an onscreen match up
between Chan and Li for years and now it’s finally
happening. The thought of seeing two iconic figures like
Jackie Chan and Jet Li finally fighting each other or
side by side brings a little tingle of excitement to the
air. To top it off, the action scenes will be
choreographed by the renowned Yuen Wo-ping.
American director Rob Minkoff of “Lion King” will helm
the movie and the screenplay is written by John Fusco.
The Chinese kung fu, legends and myths from Western
angel must be fresh and interesting to Chinese audience.
It is still not decided yet who will play the two key
female roles in the movie.
Minkoff’s film will have the added challenge of having
to sell itself to a savvy Chinese audience that knows
the source material well and Western audiences that may
miss the reference altogether.
