Three Kingdoms:
Resurrection of the Dragon |
The first trailer is from "Three Kingdoms:
Resurrection of the Dragon"
(三國志見龍卸甲) which stars Andy Lau, Maggie Q, Sammo Hung,
and Vaness Wu. Release is expected for early 2008.
Big-budget Asian epics have lost their novelty about the time Zhang Yimou came out with his “Hero” and “House of Flying Daggers”. Now it seems like every Asian filmmaker is going for the “historical action epic” movie, and one of the most highly anticipated is Andy Lau and Maggie Q.’s “Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon”, which is based on the ever-so popular “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” novels written by Luo Guangzhong nearly 600 years ago. (John Woo’s own “Battle of Red Cliff” is also based on parts of it.) Variety says “Resurrection of the Dragon” has been budgeted at $20 million, and is now shooting in China under helmer Daniel Lee (”Black Mask”), who also wrote the screenplay adaptation.
As the title indicates, the film is set in the Three
Kingdoms period, immortalized in a classic work of
historical fiction. The young Zhao Ziling (Andy Lau)
goes to war against Cao Cao, a cunning politician and
military strategist. Finally, Cao Cao’s forces are sent
into retreat, but the battles between feuding warlords
continue for sixty years. Zhao Ziling, now an old man,
must finally take to the field against Cao’s warrior
grand-daughter, Cao Ying (Maggie Q.)

The second trailer is for the upcoming Jackie Chan & Jet
Li film "The Forbidden Kingdom". This
movie is the first time these two superstars have
starred in the same movie. Also stars Crystal Liu Yifei
and American teen Michael Angarano.
Synopsis: In "Forbidden
Kingdom," American teenager Jason (Michael Angarano),
who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and kungfu
classics, finds an antique Chinese staff in a pawn shop:
the legendary stick weapon of the Chinese sage and
warrior, the Monkey King (Jet Li). With the lost relic
in hand, Jason unexpectedly finds himself transported
back to ancient China.
There, he meets the drunken kungfu master, Lu Yan
(Jackie Chan); an enigmatic and skillful Silent Monk
(Jet Li); and a vengeance-bent kungfu beauty, Golden
Sparrow (Crystal Liu Yi Fei), who lead him on his quest
to return the staff to its rightful owner, the Monkey
King - imprisoned in stone by the evil Jade Warlord
(Collin Chou) for five hundred years. Along the way,
while attempting to outmaneuver scores of Jade Warriors,
Cult Killers and the deadly White Hair Demoness, Ni
Chang (Li Bing Bing), Jason learns about honor, loyalty
and friendship, and the true meaning of kungfu, and thus
frees himself.
Keep in mind the film's fight choreography is from Yuen
Wo Ping (The Matrix films). The buzz online is on the
much hyped fighting sequences between Jackie Chan and
Jet Li - which means everyone will pack the theaters
come April 18th.
