Based
on various Internet
sources and AP, Taiwan pop singer Jay Chou has in principle
agreed to take the lead in "Slam Dunk."
Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou, will have the lead role,
and his South Korean counterpart BoA, has also signed
on. Chinese NBA star Yao Ming will make a cameo
appearance.
It will
be produced by Taiwan's Chang-Hong Channel Film & Video
and directed by Chu Yin-Ping. Wu Dun, president of
Chang-Hong, intends to make Slam Dunk a purely
made-in-Taiwan project and has turned down a financial
offer from a Hong Kong company.
The
movie will have a lot of special effects, kung fu and
basketball competition, “Slam Dunk” idea originated from
the Japanese Manga anime. However, the story would be
rewritten, adding in martial arts elements.
The
story is about an orphan (Chou) who grew up in a martial
arts school. From there he learns to become a great
basketball player.
Chou has been developing his film career, appearing in
the Japanese comic book-inspired film, Initial D, and is
currently filming famed Chinese director Zhang Yimou's
Curse of the Golden Flower.
Cheng Xiao Dong (House of Flying Daggers, Hero) is set to be the action choreographer for the movie.
Slam Dunk
will begin filming next year in March and will film in
Taiwan and possibly China. It will be in movie
theaters by the 2008 Olympics.
