Hong Kong singer-actor Edison Chen set a Guinness world record on Sunday by bungee jumping in Macau.
He and the 'father' of bungee jumping, A.J. Hackett, fell separately from a point 233m above the ground off the 338m-high Macau Tower.
Chen plunged a reported 203m to score a Guinness world record. Chen’s jump earned the Macau Tower the designation as 'The World's Highest Bungee Jump Facility'..
His father and elder sister were among the large crowd of Chen's fans who watched as he dropped from the tower. It was the first time Chen had even done a bungee jump.
He immediately sent off an SMS to his girlfriend Vincy Chan to report his
accomplishment.
Chen had been invited, for a fee of HK$1 million (US$128,000), to make the jump to promote the Macau Tower's bungee jump business, Apple Daily reported.
It was his first bungee jump but Chen told reporters before his feat: 'I don't want to be scared. If I'm scared, I won't jump and then I will lose face.'
Just before diving off, he shouted: 'Dad and Mum, I love you.'
Back on the ground, he said: 'I feel great.'
He was tearing but said: 'I think it's because of the wind blowing into my eyes. You'd have tears if you were going down at 200kmh.'
